Costa Brava Spain Beaches
Pals (A Wild Beach
with a Medieval Village Heart)

Pals beach (Platja de Pals), forms part of a 5 km golden sand crescent that runs from the Montgri Massif to the Begur headland.

Pals Costa Brava

Platja de Pals is divided into two beaches…

Sa Punta

Sa Punta meets Begur’s Platja del Raco at the start of the Begur headland.

This part of Platja de Pals, is busier. Due to its proximity to the amenities of Sa Punta and Els Masos de Pals, it is particular popular with families.

My most enduring memory of Sa Punta is being hit in the face with a golf club in crazy golf when I was 7...but don't let that put you off.

As well as crazy golf (just behind the beach), there is a cafe/bar right on the beach.

El Mas Pinell

El Mas Pinell meets L’Estartit’s Platja de Pletera at the mouth of the River Ter.

Pals Costa Brava

This part of Platja de Pals is much quieter and more wild, as it is backed by the conservation area of Aiguamolls de Baix Emporda (Basses d’en Coll).

Basses d’en Coll - Costa Brava

There are also conservation methods in place to protect the sand dunes (and the other native flora and fauna) that run along the whole of the Platja de Pals-Estartit beach (the Baix Emporda Wetlands Dunes and Lagoons Restoration Project). So it will thankfully stay wild.

You are likely to have this part of the beach to yourself.

Enjoy the Costa Brava beach of Pals

Lying on Platja de Pals you have a wonderful view of the Begur headland to your right, L'Estartit and the Montgri Massif to your left,

Medes Islands Costa Brava

and the marine reserve of the Medes Islands ahead of you.

Pals beach is great place for the windy water sports of windsurfing and kitesurfing. Kayaking is also really popular along the River Ter as well as round the Begur headland.

The oldest golf course (Golf Platja de Pals) on the Costa Brava is found just behind Platja de Pals, in between El Mas Pinell and Sa Punta. Serres de Pals is also very nearby.

Don't miss out on a visit to the beautiful restored Medieval village of Pals (the small old town) that sits on a hill a short drive inland from the beach.

Interesting fact…until 2001 the Costa Brava beach of Pals was the American broadcasting base of Radio Liberty, and its massive antennae dominated the beach until they were removed in 2006. The broadcasting base was apparently financed by the CIA and was used to transmit propaganda during the Cold War.
