Snorkelling Roses and Cap De Creus

by Jasen Jordan

Hello

My Family and I will be staying in Roses for a week in October.

I was wondering if you could recommend any good snorkeling areas around the Roses area?

People often mention Cadaques as a good spot..Would you say this is a fair opinion?

Obviously we will at some point endevour to travel to the area of Begur and visit the coves you mention on the Beaches section but would like to be able to snorkel more local to Roses on days that the weather allows.

Congratulations and Thankyou for providing a fantastic web page about this region.

Kind Regards Jasen

Hi Jasen

Thanks for getting in touch.

Glad you like the website and have found it useful.

You do not need to go as far as Cadaques for great snorkelling. The whole of the Cap de Creus headland is fantastic, both in the sea and on land.

Good snorkelling spots on Cap de Creus are:

Cala Murta
Cala Rostella
Cala Montjoi
El Canadell
Cala Joncols

If you look at our Roses Coves page you will be able to see how far each cove is from Roses. If you look at the map (in satellite mode) at the bottom of the page you can see the coves/bays quite clearly.

As far as Roses itself is concerned, it’s not great for snorkelling as it is a sand beach. But if you head to Platja de la Bonifaci (about 4km from Platja de Roses) you can snorkel around the rocks.

If you guys like walking. We can highly recommend the walk around Cap De Norfeu, which takes a couple of hours. You can park just above El Canadell cove. It’s a stunning walk with amazing views of the coast. On a hot day we finish the walk with a dip at El Canadell.

Cadaques and Begur are obviously great places to visit too.

Hope you have a wonderful holiday.

Imogen

Cala Joncols

I have dived from Cala Joncols - had good visibility, plenty to see. I reckon would be good for snorkelling too.
