Costa Brava Scuba Diving Course

by Sowmya Mani

Hello,
I'm planning to visit Spain in March 2015 and am very keen on scuba diving. Do we have to do a course before we do it? If yes, how long is the course and what's the cost?
Can we travel from Barcelona or stay in Costa Brava itself?

Cheers,

Sowmya Mani

Diving Courses, Sea Temperatures
by: Real-Costa-Brava

Hi Sowmya,

Sea Temperatures Costa Brava

In March on the Costa Brava the average sea temperature is 12.4 degrees centigrade. For more information see our climate page .

Try Dive, Open Water Costa Brava

You do not need to do a scuba diving course if you have not scuba dived before, you can do a ‘try dive’ to see if you like it. A try dive is a shallow dive of 7-10 metres lasting about 30 minutes with an instructor where you learn the basics - you can do this in a swimming pool to see if you like scuba diving or can just go straight ahead and do it in the sea - it costs around 45-60€.

Alternatively, you can take the open water course. An open water course on the Costa Brava can be done in 3-5 days (you can do the theory online before you come) and costs around €400. This qualification will allow you to dive to 12-18 metres.

Once you have the open water diving qualification you can just book a single dive with full equipment rental, boat, dive tax and guide for around 50-65€.

Dive Costa Brava From Barcelona

If you choose to just do a try dive or you get qualified to dive before you come to the Costa Brava and therefore just want to do a single dive, it would be possible to do that in a day trip from Barcelona. Depending on which Costa Brava town you choose to dive from it will take you between 1-2 hours to get there.

Look at our our Diving Centres Directories where we list each dive centre for each town on the Costa Brava.

Enjoy!
